Keep your eye open for a good deal on the Penn 320LD. A lightweight lever drag boat reel with a level wind. I've had the earlier model without level wind for about 12 years with no problems whatsoever. The later model with level wind allows you to use the reel with braid without cutting all the skin from your fingers during a prolonged days boat fishing. Team this up with a good fast action 20-30lb class rod and you cover 95% of boat angling situations. Off the NW shallow ground though you still can't beat an uptide outfit.

How much of a tackle tart do you want to be Chris . Veals have a full range of Penn reels including the very blingy gold 2 speeds , perfect when that pb tope comes racing back towards the boat.
Or be a peasant like me and buy a pair of 7001i abu,s , one for braid and one for mono and I have been using them from the shore too.
I,ll be upgrading the bushes for bearings when I,ve got used to them.
