Hoping your pump is a long slim one Clive (like the Alvey 30mm bore x 95cm long). Anything less in length, or wider in bore makes it hard work.

Your best bet is to come over to Blackpool/Cleveleys on a very low tide and a few of us will join you to show you how it's done.
I'm no expert, but with tuition from Chris, Frank, Rob and Tim I'm confident I can now at least provide my own bait.

Ianb1303 is right, it's dirty work, probably very cold and uncomfortable in winter, but very rewarding when in a couple of hours you've dug all the bait you need for several fishing sessions.

PM me when you're going to give it a try.

Best

I've had a play with a big one on the sand, there is a nack too it, you have to support it well and put some elbow grease into it otherwise nothing happens, i suppose with a different one the stroke will be less but harder, i don't know, i've only done it once.
Practice makes perfect.

When you've seen Buck2003 and Darth_codhead pump on a good worm bed, you'll realise that guy is a rank amateur!

On a good bed last week I saw worm casts at about 2 foot apart....... and the lads were looking for the biggest and fattest coils where they were pulling out 16" long worms with every pull.

As a softie, I'll use thin latex surgical gloves as the iodine from the worms stains your hands for several days.

I'm going out today to catch the 12 o'clock low tide, not the best at 2.2 m but should get a good few. If you can make it, you're welcome to join me.

Post by Lady Luck Kaz Fri May 08, 2009 4:06 am

Hiya Clive,

It looks like you have got the exact same one as Frank first got. The ones they use now are a lot slimmer and lighter and can pump once for a worm. The one you have is heavy and takes a couple of pumps for one worm. Frank struggled with it and so did Chris, also our boys had a go and found it hard work too. Have a go though, but do have a word with Buck2003 & Chris as to the best way.

Kaz is right Clive, it's the larger bore and short so it will be hard work.
That said, you're a big lad and it will tone your muscles to peak perfection (but you'll need to keep swopping arms) lol!

Bit of advice though, make sure Zivile is well away or she might end up being sucked up through the sand affraid

Or maybe cheers cheers cheers

lol!
