Get The Bait Right And Catch A Cod
Bait management isn't at th top of most anglers list of priorities. Fishing with the right gear and being out on the beach seem to come first. It's offten said in angling circles that being in the right place at the right time is the key to success, but that assumes you already have the right tackle and bait.
The range of successful winter sea angling baits is well known, with lugworm and squid being all you need. But, and it's a big but, thereare many ways anglers can ruin that bait's potential. First, the range of lugworms that come from the pumpers or tackle shops is vast, despite there being just two species of lug. Some are small, others huge, some are full of sand and water, others fresh or old, some frozen, and some live ones actually dead.
These variations have a dramatic affect on the bait's performance and an angler's results. On top of that, the time that elapses between buying the bait and fishing with it can affect it's deterioration. After that, bait presentation and it's durability during casting and on the seabed also affect it's powers of attraction- all told, a minefield of ways that your bait's potential could be ruined in an instant.
