Charity meet and greet 28/03/09
Afternoon anglers ,
apologies for the late report but have been very busy , well saturday was the date for our very first charity meet and greet of the year in aid of this years charity " hampshire and iow air ambulance" , me and mick jumped on the ferry and was on the island for 12 pm , met up at 1 pm on shanklin seafront with the rest of the crew for the before match raffle , very poor turn out for this one with only 11 anglers attending , but we were determined to make the most of it ,
Draw done and dusted and with everyone winning a prize or 3 , we headed off to our fishing mark which was a last minute change due to bad weather , so off on a 10 minute journey to yaverland after stopping off for refueling "sausage and chips" , parked up and headed off on a hellish 1 mile hike under the cliffs to get to the only piece of land fishable over high water (cut off from getting back) , wouldnt advise this unless accompanied by experienced iow anglers ...... the mark at low .......
Fished the tide in , over high and the ebb , armed with more baits than you can shake a stick at we got down to business , fishing was very slow with a small turbot of 9 ozs falling to adam .....
then nicks turn with another turbo at 7 ozs ......
all went quiet for a bit with davey bagging a small pout and then pj ,
nick (slippery) got in on the action with a 13 oz pout and a small pin whiting for his efforts , then my turn with the last of the turbos , weighing in at a joint 3rd of 9 ozs ....
as time was nearing the end , mick came up trumps with his first and only fish of the night but a prize taking silver bar of 3 lb 1 oz ......
made the way back to the car park for the prize giving (even more hellish walking back lol),
So scores on the doors were , joint 3rd was me with a 9 oz turbot winning a mustad bait towel and mustad rig wallet ........
second place was nick (slippery) with a 13 oz pout , he left before the match was over so no pics , and last but not least first place fell to mick with his well deserved bass of 3lb 1 oz , for which he landed himself a bass rod and a baitcast reel , also 25 quid in pools and a bottle of scotch ...........
Well done mate , well deserved ,
one last prize was for the smallest fish of the night lol , for which i took the honours
landed me with a john wilson 12 ft carp rod .....nice !! ,
Well first meet of the year , not a very good turn out but it was great to be in the company of old and new friends , cracking laugh and fishing ,what more could you ask for and more importantly over 200 quid raised towards the ever growing pot for the air ambulance , looking forward to the next meet in july on the mianland .
cheers lee .
