Another go at Chale
Being a glutton for punishment or determined to be there when the Rays finally turn up, not sure which, Nick and I headed off to Chale for our Friday night session. Arrived at 7pm to find the carpark empty, no other anglers. Well took the steep climb down.
After the long trek through the shingle, We were set up by 7.30pm, Using size 4/0 pennel clip down rigs one I baited with half a bluey cast short looking for a Bass the other was quality sandeel cast at distance for the rays. With both rods cast out it was now time to sit and wait to see if anything was hungry, just then I noticed something in the sky, was this one of our mates found a new way down the cliff?
No just a para glider enjoying the thermals that the cliffs produce.
Well the sun was dipping in the west fast and with a bit of a surf running for a change we were hopefull of some action after dark, despite a full moon.
Well Nick was first in with a small Pout and just as the last of the light was disappearing from the horizon I get my first bite on the sandeel. Striking there was some weight but was coming in too easy for a ray, 20 yards out and the fish decided that was far enough and started to struggle and kited off to the right but with the help of a large wave she was beached a nice Bass of 3lb exactly, not my biggest of the year but probably one of the most welcome, photos taken she was released.
After that the doggies started to feed in earnest with Nick catching one after the other, I managed a nice Pout which I dispatched quickly then putting a fillet on cast back out.
High water arrived and then the ebb started Nick was still catching Doggies but was enjoying it, me I managed three, then finally another better bite on the Pout fillet and again my reward was a spirited Bass, almost a twin of the first this going 3ib 2oz.
Well time was getting on, the sky was starting to lighten in the east and my bed was starting to call me, then Nick calls over "better fish" and in came a nice spotted Ray going 3lb, to say he was chuffed with it is an understatement, a lot of hours were spent for that fish.
Well we fished on till nearly 5am but with it now daylight it was time to go and face the climb back up.
Still all in all a good night, Nick had 15 doggies 2 pout and his spotted Ray and I had 3 doggies 1 pout and 2 Bass all this with a big full moon glaring down at us, so things are finally starting to improve at Chale.
I will be back!

a good selection the spotted ray was a bonus after catching the rat's of the sea ( doggies) i hate the dam things but thats what you get
when you fish with big bait. i wouldn't have fancied the climb back up i would have took the lift
good report guys well done
