Fished East-Cowes tackle comp on friday evening,at chale, arrived and was set up for the start at 7pm. Although it was a beautiful evening conditions weren't great for ray fishing, with a flat calm and crystal clear water. But i had to try so one rod went out with a clip down rig and sandeel and mackerel wrap. The other was a scratching rig, hopefully for wrasse in daylight then pout and doggies after dark.

I had nothing, not even a nibble until 9pm when something picked up the sandeel and mackerel, the fish put up a cracking fight but eventually it was on the beach, target achieved and a new PB for me, a 9lb 11oz small eyed ray.

After dark the pout came on the feed, unfortunately the size for these comps is 10 inches and most of the 20+ i landed were undersize but did manage 4 in size which gave me a total weight of 12lb 6oz, good enough for the win, and even better its a catch and release comp so all fish were returned alive.
