Hi< I have fished the Medway several times and a nice 20 to 30lb class boat rod will suffice for most conditions that you will experience there. Try to get a light rod if possible rather than a heavy clumsy thing., as for the reel, an abu 7000 or an okuma mag 30 is about the right size.
Hope this helps.

A friend of mine had the smaller 501 as a sea angling boat for several years. It never gave him any concern regarding sea worthiness. You may find 25hp is a little low in propulsive requirement, particularly in steerage in rougher seas. The size of the boat may cause the waves to turn the boat about due to low steerage push from the engine. My mates 501 had a 60hp two stroke engine fitted.
The link I earlier published gives details of a local small boat angling club. I would strongly advise making contact and gaining some local safety and angling information.
