A long night at Chale
With the warm settled weather it had to be Chale Friday evening, I arrived and was set up for 7.00pm, I was Joined by lighty soon after.
We tried for some mackerel but with no luck.
Just as dusk was falling the sea erupted with what I thought was a shoal of mackerel, I cast out quickly and was in straight away, but they were scad/ Horse mackerel, still a new species for me.
I had 2 rods out with sandeel at distance for rays, and my Bass rod close in on a running ledger and mackerel head as bait.
Darkness arrived but the fish didn't, with only the smallest of pout rattles to break the monotany.
Around 2.30am Lighty who was also fishing mackerel head close in had his rod pulled down the beach by what must have been a Bass, but time he got to it the fish was gone.
We carried on and just before 4am I was rewarded with a screaming take on my Bass rod, after a spirited fight I landed this Bass of 4lb 13oz
We stayed till 6pm and whilst packing up found this Turbot of around a pound on one rod.
It was a lovely evening/night in good company, just a shame the fishing was upto much. The sea was very clear so think we need a bit of a blow down there to colour things up.
