Hit and miss
Due to illness I've not been out a lot, but with settled weather I made the trek down Chale Friday evening looking for a ray or two. The sea was calm and clear and I was intending to stay till dawn.
Well to cut a long story short, by 1am I hadn't even had a pout rattle so decided to call it a night.
Having had a early night without a fish the wife took pity on me and allowed me to go out again Saturday for a few hours, So decided on a local pontoon, mackerel being the bait, I was there just gone 10pm.
I was using a carp rod with chunks of mackerel, and a Bass rod with the heads.
After 20 minutes a good take heralded the first fish, a silver eel of around a pound, a short while later another of nearly 2pound came in, great sport on the carp rod but they wern't what I was after. Finally a hard take and the first Bass came in, only about a pound but again a spirited fight on light gear.
Just before 1am, the time I said I would leave, the carp rod gets dragged along the pontoon and another Bass close to 2lb was landed. As I was unhooking it the rachet on the Bass rod screemed off and in came this better Bass of 4lb exactly.
So I had two in the net.
Well I stayed till 2am, and despite a few knocks landed nothng else, still it was good to be back into some fish, which were all returned alive to fight another day.
