Cart Gap N Norfolk Sat 20/06/09
Went Cart Gap (Eccles On Sea) on Sat with mate Col
Fished 3 hours up and 2 down. 1pm -6pm.
Strong southerly and tide ripping to the south, Every time we cast out, wind and tide pulling line and weight to the right. Even with big weight on and a 140 yard cast still pulling weight in. Reckon we were only fishing 50 yards out max when weight settled.
Col caught 2 schooly bass and me 1 (at least the bass were back on). Only 3 bites all day.
Any of you old sea salts give us any advice on how to deal with that sort of wind and tide to keep the lead out there??
Cheers

thanks for the report good to see you managed a few fish between you as for the wind and tide my suggestion is to up your weights to 8oz and cut down the casting distance the less line you got out the less tidal drag there is on it and cast uptide to try and counter the effects

Thanks King
Unfortunately that didn't work either. Tried a 7oz gripper at 60 yards, followed my line along after settling and it was in the surf at the waters edge.
I think we just got some freak conditions where wind and tide got together to outdo us. We were fishing fairly smooth ground and my shock leaders were coming in like a Great White had got hold of it.
Well, there's always next time
cheers

Yep
think you've called it right Ryan.
The only time we caught was when we seemed to catch the eddy just right with a bowed line.
But trying to catch that SWEET SPOT, we could only do 1 in 4 casts. When we caught it right you could see and feel the difference. Still b****y hard work.

My 2 little babies you mean. Best reels I've ever had
Dont know if your dad ever picked up the message from t'other side , but got my second one thanks to him for £125 (now selling at nearly £200). But they need a fair bit of looking after once used. Reckon they've put 20 yards on my casting and with an OTG lesson, now casting a steady 150 yards + (or minus minus if you listen to my mate Col)
Wont be at the get together unfortunately at weekend (long way to go and a lot on), but I'll definitely meet up with all you bods at some stage this summer.

Got one 7HT mag and was really impressed, BUT it wasn't till I took a lesson from Gary Setchell (ex brit champ FS) that I realised all my settings and hand positions were all wrong. Changed them and WOW, what a difference.
Shows what experience can teach you.
HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended that people take a casting lesson.
