Rig making made easy
Hiya folks
New to the site but posted this on another site and oldgreyfox has asked if it could be put on here.
So here goes.
Pretty new to sea fishing and started making my own rigs. This idea was given to me when making my own rigs for puddle chucking. Dont know where the idea came from or from who.
Would appreciate some opinions from the more seasoned anglers out there if there is a standard bit of kit to do this or an easier or alternative way??
INGREDIENTS: (lol)
plank of wood about 3foot long (depends on length of rig)
3+ panel pins
Pencil (pen)
rig making set (crimps, beads, swivels, bait umbrellas, etc)
Hook(s)
main rig body line (60lb?)
snood line (30lb?)
Simple 1 hook rig
1. Place panel pin in top centre of plank of wood.
2. Place ready made rig top swivel over panel pin and pull line tight. (can use 2 more panel pins to keep terminal ends in place?)
3 & 4. With line tight, mark up all beads, crimps, swivels etc
Remove ready made rig
5. Tie top swivel onto line, hook over panel pin
6. Cut length of line allowing enough to tie weight swivel (or hook) in position
7. Place all beads, crimps, swivels etc on line in order they're written in on wood from top to bottom
8. When in correct position crimp, tie knots etc
Rig complete ready for next one.
The longest part is setting up the template and tying knots. (but once the template is made it can be used again and again)
Would be interested to hear your views on this and if you find it works for you?
Since posting this originally have developed one or two more bits to make easier but is a bit difficult to explain and I think it's a case of trial and error for the individual to get it just right.

Re: Rig making made easy
Brilliantly simple idea that saves all the measuring and guesswork (and wasted line!) . I use a map pin in the weight link to keep it all tight while I attatch the snoods . Hook clips work every time now .

Re: Rig making made easy
Similar idea but 6 at a time.
I have a piece of wood 4ft long & marked off in inches. At one end is a cross piece fixed with 6 cup hooks at an angle so they close the gap when screwed right in & 6 rotters looped on.
At the other end is a similar set up but with elastic bands fitted.
This end is movable & can be fixed half way down to make shorter rigs.
An idea of what the whole thing looks like.
Now simply make your loop or tie a swivel onto the rig body & hook it over a rotter ( rotten bottom clips) cut to length & thread all the components onto the line.
Tie your weight clip onto the other end & hook through the elastic band. You will end up with 6 lines with all the bits on next to each other , now simply slide everything into place using the markings for getting it level & when satisfied crimp.
Now tie on your snoods & hooks.
When finished I use the resealable bags to keep rigs in & all the same type in one pocket of a rig wallet.
Hope this is of some use.
