Gynn Square, 28-29th April
John and I, decided to nip over to catch the 1.30 am high tide at the slipway below Gynn Square. We used the rag and bluey left over from the fleetwood meet on saturday.
Arrived at 11.30pm and got 2 rods out each, John using a single hook pulley with size 1/0 hook and 3 hook flapper with size 4 hooks and I used 2 wishbone pulley rigs with size 1 hooks.
It was mayhem, we had 42 whiting from 3 inch to 14 inch and put them all back alive cos they were anorexic,John also got a hen thornback 17 inch wingtip to wingtip and a 19 inch smoothhound, which were put back, and missed connecting with 5 runs, I missed 3 runs.
We ran out of bluey just before 2am but still kept catching on rag till we ran out of that at 3.15am.
Funnily enough we didn,t catch any flatties, but I suppose they didn,t have a chance to get to the bait as the whiting were grabbing it before we could even tighten up to the lead.
It was an absolutely fantastic night, and we didn,t realise how much it had rained until we tried to peel off our floaty jackets. Definately made up for Saturdays big blank.
both of us are now suffering from acheing backs from all the casting and retrieving.

Good post and a great result Strathy! 'hope you & John recover soon!
Just proves how a mark can be so poor in the light (Sunday - 5 fish between 25 fishing x 4 hours) and so good in the dark.
There aren't many places in the North West where you can fish from the boot of your car, and it's why the Wall is so popular at night.
Can't be long before the bass start showing...... just need to get the bait through the whiting.

Hi Clive,
you need to try night fishing, especially on the sandy fylde beaches and morcambe bay the fish come in closer and feed better.
saturday was a bit of a culture shock for me and John as we,re not used to seeing the sea in daylight.
we normally fish the Gynn Wall like last night, North Wall at Heysham or Arnside and aim to fish when high tide is between midnight and 2 am, as these tides seem to be the most productive.
All 3 of these venues are well lit for night fishing safety.
We always try to get ourselves near the slipways at Arnside and Blackpool and the steps near the barrier at Heysham, to make it easier to land and return any bigger fish we catch.
We,re seriously considering going having a go at the coast guard station soon because it looked so fishy on saturday, and hopefully the seals will be in bed at night.
So have a night out fishing, I,m sure you,ll enjoy it.
