Re: Boxes of frozen squid
HI the boxes state the contents are 1-Ib (160z) and are packed with calamari each complete and about 6-7 inch long not sure how many in a box as I guess it varies on weight but I reckon about 10 to a box. Both Chris and Frank have had some so maybe able to comment further.
It was just an idea as IMO its cheaper than super markets, makes a great summer fish bait whole or just tipping off, I find the tenticals great for tipping off worms.

Re: Boxes of frozen squid
Whilst my findings are based on results in Morecambe Bay and the Fylde coast, these frozen squid are a much better fish producer than the shop bought Mackeral or Herring. Results over 20+ year show they are the bait to use for the early Thornback and Tope until the Mackeral shoals hit our coast. The only problem from a boat fishing point of view is that the LSD can get their mouths round the little squid and can be a bit of a pain when targetting the other species.

Re: Boxes of frozen squid
It was just a thought as in supermarkets the squid isn't quite as good as these boxes. Before I found these I was paying a silly price for 1 or 2 calamari blast frozen from the tackle shop at £2+.
Does anyone know where we can get it cheaper in the North west??

Re: Boxes of frozen squid
Rob
There's a large fish-mongers in Fleetwood, opposite ASDA and just after the entrance to Freeport Outlet Centre.
I picked up about half a dozen fresh which I've got in my freezer.
Any time you want some I'll either pick you some up, or let you have my freezer stock.
No probs
Steve

Re: Boxes of frozen squid
Thanks Steve, I origionaly posted this so that if people struggle getting it or have to pay supermarket prices etc I thought it'd help. I get the boxes from Abingdon st market in town at £2.90p a box and by the time I get it home its still frozen. I just wanted to offer to pick it up for ppl if they want it thinking it was a reasonable price and as it works well.
Sorry its a little dearer than in the south of the country, but for us in the northwest it seems a good price..or I think so anyway lol

Re: Boxes of frozen squid
Wing Yip chinese supermarket do 5lb boxes really cheap, just get them home, throw on the floor ( best done outside as I found out) & split into small bags enough for a session, as long as it doesnt start reeking squid can be refrozen if not used.

Re: Boxes of frozen squid
I emailed them and they were kind enough to reply. They said they have them but not for posting due to them defrosting. I'd already sent my post code and they sent me a link to the nearest store to me (Croydon). Hopefully I'll be able to get there soon.

Take some plastic or plenty of cash cos its really hard to walk in, get a box of squid & walk out again.
